This setup also makes this vessel the first crane vessel with dual-fuel engines, allowing it to operate sustainably almost anywhere. The vessel SLEIPNIR (IMO: 9781425, MMSI 374887000) is a Other type and currently sailing under the flag of Panama. It is named for Sleipnir, the eight-legged horse. Heerema plans to use LNG as the primary fuel, with 8,000 cubic meters of LNG storage capacity giving the Sleipnir the ability to stay on station for one month or cross the Atlantic. SSCV Sleipnir is a semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV) owned and operated by Heerema Marine Contractors. Sleipnir was contracted to install a total of 38,000-ton of operational units. Lifting a module of 15,300 tonnes was never done by a crane vessel before. The vessel is equipped with two cranes of 10,000 metric tonnes lifting capacity each. S-100 data collected and made available helped the worlds largest crane vessel, Sleipnir, sail safely through narrow waters and into the Haugesund harbour. The vessel is powered by 12 dual-fuel 8 cylinder engines at up to 8 MW of power each, operating on diesel or LNG for a total of 96 MW of power. During this project Heerema’s SSCV Sleipnir set a new world record, completing a 15,300 tonnes lift, installing the topsides for Noble Energy’s Leviathan development in the Mediterranean. 220 m 102 m 12 - 32 m Sleipnir Sleipnir might look red, but it's actually green With the ability to run on emission-reducing LNG and various other sustainability measures the vessel is the world's most sustainable semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV). The columns and pontoons are rounded and streamlined to reduce drag as well. The 23.75 m or 77.9 foot tall columns house ballast tanks and LNG storage, as well as a staircase that connects the pontoons below the surface with the deck above. These columns are symmetrical fore and aft, making it more stable in rough seas than some other vessels that use bigger columns under the cranes for more support. The Sleipnir was named after the Norse God Odin’s eight-legged horse and like that fabled steed, the vessel Sleipnir is constructed as a platform on eight columns, with a pontoon on each side.
